Play Is The Way

At Regency Park Primary School, Play is the Way has been an embedded part of our wellbeing program for more than a decade. This play-based approach helps students develop social and emotional skills that strengthen relationships, build resilience, and promote positive behaviour across all areas of school life.

Students participate in two 20-minute Play is the Way sessions each week with their classroom teacher. Through these sessions, they learn to reflect on their actions, communicate effectively, and problem-solve collaboratively.

Play is the Way is suitable for all primary school students, regardless of age, ability or background. The focus is on teamwork, communication and personal growth rather than athletic ability.

Through the program, students engage in:

  • Physically interactive games that encourage cooperation and self-control
  • The “Life Raft” concepts, which act as a moral compass to guide decision-making and behaviour
  • Reflective language that empowers children to take responsibility for their actions and choices

The program helps students develop important life skills as they learn to:

  • Respond positively to both success and disappointment
  • Show empathy, respect and appreciation for others
  • Control impulsive behaviour and focus on long-term goals
  • Value effort, persistence and the process of learning
  • Work collaboratively, demonstrating fairness and consideration

At Regency Park, Play is the Way reflects our commitment to nurturing the whole child. By learning through play, students strengthen their social and emotional wellbeing, develop confidence, and build the skills needed to thrive both in and beyond the classroom.
