Prep Buddies
Our Year 5 students partner with our Prep children to build a strong sense of connection and collaboration. This begins as part of our ‘Ready for Regency’ transition program, where students are paired with a buddy before the new school year starts.
Throughout the year, Preps and Year 5s participate in a variety of activities, ranging from informal catchups over lunch to structured and fun learning experiences that support both social connections and academic growth.
The buddy program is a wonderful way to make our “big kids” friendly and approachable, while giving our Year 5 students the opportunity to develop leadership, empathy and mentoring skills as they support and guide their younger peers.
Reading Rocks Buddy Program
Our Reading Rocks Buddy Program brings together Year 1 and Year 4 students to share the joy of reading. Throughout each term, buddies meet regularly to read together, helping Year 1 students build confidence, fluency, and a love of books. For Year 1 students, having an older buddy provides encouragement and support, while Year 4 students develop independence and leadership skills as mentors.
As the program progresses, students learn more about each other’s interests and personalities. This enables Year 4 buddies to thoughtfully select books from the library that their Year 1 partner will enjoy, making reading sessions engaging and meaningful. Beyond reading, the program strengthens friendships across year levels and fosters a positive sense of community within our school.
