Inquiry

At Regency Park Primary School, Inquiry learning provides students with meaningful and connected experiences that foster curiosity, problem solving and critical thinking. Through an integrated approach, students explore the learning areas of Science, Humanities, Health and Technologies while also developing the four capabilities of the Victorian Curriculum: Critical and Creative Thinking, Ethical, Intercultural, and Personal and Social. Students also explore Indigenous perspectives, deepening their understanding of Australia’s history and culture and developing respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the custodians of our land.

This ensures that learning is purposeful and balanced, supporting both academic achievement and the development of essential life skills.

Inquiry units are carefully planned in two-year cycles for Years 1 and 2, Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6, ensuring consistent coverage of the Victorian Curriculum and a variety of rich and engaging experiences across the school. Strong links are made with core areas of English and Mathematics, allowing students to apply and deepen their skills in authentic contexts.

Each Inquiry unit is designed to spark curiosity and invite students to wonder, question and investigate. Activities promote independence, collaboration, organisation, communication and creativity, while purposeful incursions and excursions extend learning beyond the classroom. Students work together on problems, projects, experiments and investigations, learning how to think critically and act responsibly as active citizens.

At Regency Park, Inquiry learning helps students develop the confidence, curiosity and adaptability they need to become lifelong learners who continue to grow and explore the world around them.
