Visual Arts

At Regency Park Primary School, we believe every child is an artist with a unique voice to share. Our Visual Arts program nurtures creativity, imagination, and self-expression while building skills and confidence that extend far beyond the art room. Through hands-on experiences and meaningful exploration, students develop an appreciation for visual culture in their own lives and the wider community.

From Prep through to Year 6, students engage in an artistic journey that introduces them to a wide variety of techniques, materials, and processes. In the early years, the focus is on experimentation, exploration, and the joy of making. As students’ progress, they are encouraged to refine their skills, take creative risks, and express ideas with increasing independence and sophistication.

Our Visual Arts classes are designed to inspire curiosity and confidence, encouraging students to view themselves as both artists and critical thinkers. Students learn to appreciate the works of artists from diverse times and cultures while also recognising the value and originality of their own creativity.

Some of the areas explored in Visual Arts include:

  • Drawing, painting, and printmaking
  • Collage, mixed media, and textile art
  • Sculpture and construction using a range of materials
  • Digital art and photography
  • Exploring artistic traditions from different cultures
  • Responding to and reflecting on artworks
  • Understanding art elements and principles such as line, colour, shape, texture, balance, and contrast

The program is further enriched by whole-school events such as Harmony Week, NAIDOC Week, Education Week, and art showcases, which provide opportunities for students to share their work with families and the wider community. These celebrations build pride in achievement and strengthen connections through creativity.

At Regency Park Primary, we value the role of Visual Arts in developing critical thinkers, problem solvers, and confident learners. Most importantly, we celebrate the joy, imagination, and individuality each child brings to their artistic journey.
