STEM education, which brings together Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, is a vital part of primary school learning. It lays the foundation for critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving, while fostering curiosity and innovation. At Regency Park Primary School we are proud to offer STEM as a weekly specialist subject, providing every student with the opportunity to explore the natural and physical world through meaningful and engaging learning experiences.
In STEM classes students investigate the three strands of the Victorian Science Curriculum: Science Understanding, Science as a Human Endeavour, and Science Inquiry Skills.
Science Understanding
Students explore the areas of biological, chemical, physical, and earth and space sciences. They learn how the world around them works, from the life cycles of plants and animals to the properties of materials and the forces that shape our environment.
Science as a Human Endeavour
Learners discover how scientific discoveries have influenced society in the past and continue to shape our daily lives today. This strand builds an appreciation of the evolving nature of science and highlights the importance of ethical and sustainable decision making.
Science Inquiry Skills
Students are encouraged to ask questions, plan and conduct investigations, collect and analyse data, and share their findings. This hands-on approach builds confidence, resilience, and a love of learning through experimentation.
STEM learning in our dedicated classroom comes to life through a wide variety of engaging activities, including:
