As we approach the end of Term 2 and the halfway point of the school year, we would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support. We continue to be incredibly grateful to our community for their investment in their child’s learning, their support of our teaching and learning programs, and their partnership in promoting the wellbeing of all students.

Our end-of-term newsletter is always a special edition, showcasing highlights from across the term. We hope you enjoy looking back on all that has been achieved throughout the semester, including the many exciting events, learning experiences and growth our students have demonstrated.

Best Wishes to Jayde Cairns

This week we send our best wishes to Jayde Cairns as she commences her maternity leave at the end of the term.

We wish you all the very best as you embark on this exciting new chapter and look forward to meeting your newest family member in the future.

Cheese Toastie Fundraiser Thank You

Thank you to the volunteers who supported our PTFA’s Cheese Toastie Fundraiser.

Your time, organisation and assistance ensured the day ran smoothly, and many students enjoyed some delicious melted cheesy goodness. We greatly appreciate your support.

Year 4 Camp

Thank you to our staff and parent helpers who attended the Year 4 Camp at Phillip Island last week.

It was a wonderful first camp experience for our Year 4 students, who embraced the many challenges and opportunities on offer while creating lasting memories with their classmates.

We look forward to sharing a more detailed update and photos from their adventures in the next edition of our newsletter.

Regency Rangers

Exciting times are ahead with our Regency Rangers receiving their badges at our assembly this term, having their first incursion to learn about the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme and how we can benefit from making better decisions with what we do with our recyclables.

The Rangers have had several meetings where they were tasked with different things to make a positive impact on our school, and we all look forward to Term 3 and the works we can be doing within our school community.

After the holidays, more information will be shared about container drop off points at our school and other opportunities we can take to update and make our garden bed area and other parts of our schoolgrounds new and interactive!

Victorian State School Spectacular Update

Our Spectacular Dance Crew is excitedly waiting for Saturday the 29th of August and we will soon be able to snap up tickets to this performance.

Mrs McGowan has the following information to help with ticket purchases below.

Parent Teacher Student Conferences Reminder

A reminder that Parent Teacher Student Conferences have been brought forward to Week 2 of Term 3 to provide families with an opportunity to discuss their child’s Semester 1 Report and gain further insights into their learning progress.

As has been our practice, we encourage students to participate in these conversations. Student involvement provides an opportunity for them to share achievements they are proud of, reflect on their learning journey, and discuss goals and aspirations for the remainder of the school year. As such all interviews will be face to face.

Bookings are now open on Compass. Please log on to secure your booking.

We hope your children enjoy a restful and restorative two-week break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for the start of Term 3 on Monday 13 July.

Every Child. Every Opportunity.
With courage and commitment,

Allyson Kocaj

Principal

Important Information from Our Office

Read Time: ( words)

COMPASS changes for easy and clear communication from the office.

Following feedback from our families, notifications will now come to parents via a simple text message to your phone, rather than an email. The message will advise parents of any minor injury treated in the first aid room, including minor head knocks with the student’s safe return to class.

For any major head knock or injury parents will be contacted directly via phone.

Will now be sent to parents from 9.30am, via text message. If your child is absent without your explanation, you will receive a text message from the office for your reply.

Instructions for making your payment will be provided from the office via Compass with the step-by-step guide for use on your phone or computer.

Punctuality in consent & payments on COMPASS

Thank you to all of our families who have already paid their family contributions. Please see our Business Manager, if you would like to undertake a payment plan for upcoming school costs.
Please note payments for the majority of school events/excursions will be processed via COMPASS.

Throughout the year there are many payments to be made for excursions, camps and swimming. It is very important that these payments are paid by the due date.

All events that require permission and payment will need to be made by the due date if you wish your child to participate.

Only in very extreme circumstances will we be able to process payments after this date, even if the excursion has not yet happened.

Unfortunately, this means your child misses out on the event.

From experience I know that parents can be quite upset when this occurs, so I ask you to be aware of this process and ensure that consent and payments are made via COMPASS on time.

If you have trouble accessing COMPASS or completing payments, please see our office staff who can assist you with the process.

2027 Prep Enrolments

Do you have a child starting Prep in 2027? Please contact the school office to receive updates on the enrolment process and key dates. We look forward to welcoming your child to our school community.

Prep – Year 2: Term 2 Highlights

Read Time: ( words)

Prep

What a fabulous Term Two we have had in Prep! The students have continued to grow braver and smarter each day, and we are so proud of all the new things they have tried and learnt!

Our reading and writing skills have continued to develop through our LLLL phonics program, where we have now learnt all the single letters and sounds in the alphabet! We had so much fun dressing as LLLL characters to celebrate this! In Reading we have been focusing on non-fiction texts, retells and predicting. In Writing we been learning about non-fiction, where we have written about lots of different animals. We have been practising writing more than one sentence and using punctuation and capital letters correctly.

In Maths we have worked hard on counting to 20 and recognising teen numbers, as well as looking at graphs and adding and subtracting.

We have learnt so much about Australian animals- what makes them unique, where they live and all about their features. Our excursion to Healesville Sanctuary was amazing, and we loved seeing the echidna, Tasmanian devil and platypus up close.

We had a terrific time celebrating Mothers’ Day with our mums and Grandparent’s Day with our nans and pops! We began PMP this term to practise our listening skills, instruction following and fine and gross motor skills. We celebrated Education Week where we had our families come in to play lots of fun Literacy and Numeracy games with us.

Preps have shown resilience, enthusiasm and bravery every day and we couldn’t be prouder of the amazing people they are!

Year 1

Term 2 was a productive learning term for our Year Ones.

Our morning routines have strengthened, as our knowledge of phonics progressively improved. We have learned to apply our letter-sound knowledge to our reading and writing, with all students making great progress in English.

In Maths, we have built upon our understanding of numbers and place value to add and subtract numbers to 20, with many students giving challenging learning opportunities a ‘red hot go’. Multiplication and division did not get left behind, as equal sharing and grouping were tackled with a confident attitude!

We delved into our inquiry unit ‘Living Things’ with an enthusiastic and curious attitude. From breeding mealworms, handling rare native animals and learning about ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’, our incursions proved to be a great way to learn about our environment.

Enjoy a well-earned break and see you in Term 3!

Year 2

Term 2 in Year 2 has been an adventure . . .

We have been exploring lots of fiction stories, investigating our phonics program and writing lots of persuasive writing pieces to convince people of our opinions.

We have loved developing our Maths skills through addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. During Education Week we had a great time, sharing literacy and numeracy games with our families.

Inquiry has been a blast! We started the term by getting a class pet – GIANT MEALWORMS! It has been so interesting seeing how they change and develop into beetles. We have had not one, but TWO brilliant incursions that gave us the opportunity to hold a range of exciting animals, including a GIGANTIC snake, and learn all about sustainable practices for our earth.

Finally, we started our ELO classes which has given us an opportunity to develop a love of learning in an area of choice, such as dance, drawing or gardening. We have loved our learning in Term 2.

Year 3 – Year 6 Highlights

Read Time: ( words)

Year 3

Term 2 has been a blast! We started the term with lots of excitement as students participated in Jump Rope for Heart, enjoying plenty of jumping, skipping, and fun while supporting a great cause.

In Mathematics, students explored fractions by creating fraction pizzas, measured duration of time, and collected and analysed data. A particular highlight was using Excel to create graphs. Year 3 students also began working on their Times Table Ninja Belts.

In English, students conducted fascinating animal research and used their findings to create informative PowerPoint presentations, showcasing both their writing and ICT skills. They also practised speaking confidently in front of an audience during their presentations. Throughout the term, students continued to build their independent reading stamina, wrote imaginative narratives, and crafted some very persuasive pieces of writing.

Beyond the classroom, students thoroughly enjoyed the Book Fair, where many wonderful books found new homes. Participating in National Simultaneous Storytime and listening to Lunar Roo along with students across Australia was another memorable experience.

One of the biggest highlights of the term was our Peer Support Program with the Year 6 students every Thursday afternoon.

What a fantastic term it has been! We are incredibly proud of all that our Year 3 students have achieved.

Year 4

What a fun and busy Term 2!

The Year 4s have shown wonderful growth and have been engaged and enthusiastic learners each day.

In English, students created thoughtful and well‑researched Information Reports on a country of their choice, showcasing their ability to organise facts and present them clearly. We also revisited both persuasive and narrative writing, strengthening our understanding of structure, purpose, and effective language choices. During Reading, we explored the author’s craft, focusing on intentional language features such as verbs and adverb group phrases, and we developed our confidence in sharing opinions about texts. In Maths, students worked across a range of concepts including location, fractions, time, and balanced equations.

The highlight of our term was undoubtedly Year 4 camp. It was wonderful to see students outside the classroom environment, embracing new experiences and embodying all the Play is the Way values. Bring on Term 3!

Year 5

As always, Term 2 was a jam packed one for Year 5, filled to the brim with special events and activities.

At the beginning of term, students enjoyed participating in Jump Rope For Heart skipping day, followed not long after by the House Athletics.

We have enjoyed several sessions with our buddies this term, including helping them prepare something special for Mothers’ Day.

Geography was the focus of this term’s Inquiry Unit. Students investigated mapping, climate zones, landforms and native flora and fauna, then researched and investigated the key features of the different continents.  They also used their knowledge to design their own country, which they shared at their first ever Expo.

Many students also took up the opportunity to attend their first ever interschool sport sessions where they represented our school with pride.

For most, though, it was our visit to Sovereign Hill and Log Cabin Camp that was a highlight of the term.  Even the rain couldn’t dampen our campers’ spirits as they climbed, crate-stacked, zipped on the zipline and participated in all kinds of fun and challenging experiences.

We look forward to what Term 3 will bring.

Year 6

The Year 6 students have enjoyed an active and successful term, demonstrating teamwork, perseverance, and excellent sportsmanship throughout a range of activities.
One of the highlights of the term was the House Athletics Carnival. Students participated enthusiastically in a variety of track and field events, competing for their house teams and encouraging one another throughout the day. The carnival showcased great house spirit, with students giving their best effort and celebrating each other’s achievements. Congratulations to Clarke House, who were crowned overall champions for the day.
Another major focus this term was the Interschool Sports Program. Students represented the school with pride across Sports Days 1 and 2, participating in either carpet bowls, netball, tee-ball, soccer, or cricket. It was pleasing to see students embracing both the challenges and successes that came with competing against other schools. We are looking forward to the Summer Sports coming up next term!
During Education Week, the Year 6 students participated in Open Classrooms. We welcomed parents, carers, and other visitors into our learning space to share in a range of engaging Maths games and activities. Students enjoyed showcasing their learning, explaining strategies, and working alongside family members. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate learning and strengthen connections between home and school.

Specialist Highlights

Auslan & Cultural Studies – Ms Hawkins

Term 2 in Auslan has been fun and busy! There have been several highlights across the year levels…from watching the Preps learn how to sign colours, through to Year 6 students signing numbers into the 1000s. However, my two favourite highlights have included art and a choir!

In collaboration with Art lessons, all students across the school had a photo taken signing a favourite colour, food, animal or transport. Mr Wheelton then guided them in using that sign to create some amazing abstract art.

Finally, it has been exciting to start the Auslan Choir. Every Monday lunch, up to 20 students from Years 2 to 6 have been learning to sign songs including ‘What A Wonderful World’ and ‘Ghostbusters.’ They will have their first performance at assembly on the last Friday of this term.

Health & Physical Education – Mr Pearce

Term 2 has been a busy and successful term in Sport and Physical Education, with students participating in a variety of activities and competitions.

Our junior students focused on developing their fundamental movement skills through games and activities involving throwing, catching and kicking. Years 3 and 4 students completed a Hockey unit, while Year 5 and 6 students participated in Squash. Students in Years 3–6 also developed their Athletics skills across a range of events.

There were many highlights throughout the term, including Winter Sport for our Year 6 students and selected Year 5 students, as well as eight students representing Regency Park at the Divisional and Regional Cross Country Carnivals. Another standout achievement was the Year 5 and 6 Hoop Time Basketball Competition, where both our All-Star Boys and All-Star Girls teams were crowned champions and will now progress to the Regional Finals in Term 4.

Music & Performing Arts – Mr Meeking

It has been a pleasure to see the continued progress of both Year 6 school bands. Students have shown great dedication by giving up one recess each week to expand their repertoire. We look forward to their performance in Term 4. Another highlight this term has been the Year 6 students learning, rehearsing, and performing instrumental parts to the song “What About Us” in small bands during music classes.
A special moment during Education Week was when Year 6 parents joined in to share their musical talents with the bands. The collaboration brought plenty of smiles, and the experience was greatly enjoyed by everyone involved.
Whilst Year 5 students have been learning the instrumental parts to “Roar” and rehearsing the piece in small bands during their music lessons.
Year 4 students have continued to develop their keyboard skills, learning new chords and tackling more challenging pieces.
Year 3 students have made excellent progress on the keyboard and are beginning to build a repertoire of songs they can confidently play.
Students in Years 1 and 2 have had great fun playing along to well-known classical pieces using a variety of percussion instruments.
Our Prep students gave a wonderful Grandparents’ Day concert, with each class performing a special song. They also impressed the whole school with their assembly performance of “Going to the Zoo.”
The enthusiasm, talent, and effort shown by the students at Regency Park have been outstanding. I am looking forward to another exciting term ahead.

S.T.E.M. (Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Math) – Mrs McGowan

Wind, lightning, sunshine and rain was the talk of Prep STEM this term. Students explored the wonders of the weather, building up their specific word knowledge and finishing off the term as weather reporters, filmed in front of the green screen!

The rest of the school learnt all about different aspects of the human body. Years 1 and 2 learnt about bones and some of our major organs, Years 3 and 4 explored how our brain, heart and lungs work through research and hands-on exploration.

Body systems was the focus for Years 5 and 6. These students explored parts of our brain and looked at some of the specific systems such as our respiratory system, digestive system and nervous systems, researching and producing items for an expo.

Visual Art & Design – Mr Wheelton

It has been a fantastic adventure in the Art room this term as the whole school did a deep exploration into the world of abstract art and being creative in this particular genre.

As students were introduced to new hand signs in Auslan, students used photos of themselves communicating through hand shapes and created inspired abstract art. Preps focused on colours, Years 1 and 2 students had transportation, Years 3 and 4 looked at fruit and vegetables, while Years 5 and 6 had their topic centralised around Australian animals. Students learnt about Vasily Kandinsky and how he connected art with sounds and transposed this on canvas through lines, shapes and colours. All classes had fun with this and really pushed their creativity as they explored “visual-sound art”. From there, students were introduced to a contemporary artist, Janet Skates, and watched her workflow as she created bright and beautiful abstract art using different media. This was a great time for students to put what they viewed into practise as they painted, drew, cut and pasted to create their own visually stunning pieces for the upcoming Crazy Camel fundraiser later this year!
