Prep – Year 2: Term 2 Highlights

Prep
What a fabulous Term Two we have had in Prep! The students have continued to grow braver and smarter each day, and we are so proud of all the new things they have tried and learnt!
Our reading and writing skills have continued to develop through our LLLL phonics program, where we have now learnt all the single letters and sounds in the alphabet! We had so much fun dressing as LLLL characters to celebrate this! In Reading we have been focusing on non-fiction texts, retells and predicting. In Writing we been learning about non-fiction, where we have written about lots of different animals. We have been practising writing more than one sentence and using punctuation and capital letters correctly.
In Maths we have worked hard on counting to 20 and recognising teen numbers, as well as looking at graphs and adding and subtracting.
We have learnt so much about Australian animals- what makes them unique, where they live and all about their features. Our excursion to Healesville Sanctuary was amazing, and we loved seeing the echidna, Tasmanian devil and platypus up close.
We had a terrific time celebrating Mothers’ Day with our mums and Grandparent’s Day with our nans and pops! We began PMP this term to practise our listening skills, instruction following and fine and gross motor skills. We celebrated Education Week where we had our families come in to play lots of fun Literacy and Numeracy games with us.
Preps have shown resilience, enthusiasm and bravery every day and we couldn’t be prouder of the amazing people they are!
Year 1
Term 2 was a productive learning term for our Year Ones.
Our morning routines have strengthened, as our knowledge of phonics progressively improved. We have learned to apply our letter-sound knowledge to our reading and writing, with all students making great progress in English.
In Maths, we have built upon our understanding of numbers and place value to add and subtract numbers to 20, with many students giving challenging learning opportunities a ‘red hot go’. Multiplication and division did not get left behind, as equal sharing and grouping were tackled with a confident attitude!
We delved into our inquiry unit ‘Living Things’ with an enthusiastic and curious attitude. From breeding mealworms, handling rare native animals and learning about ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’, our incursions proved to be a great way to learn about our environment.
Enjoy a well-earned break and see you in Term 3!
Year 2

Term 2 in Year 2 has been an adventure . . .
We have been exploring lots of fiction stories, investigating our phonics program and writing lots of persuasive writing pieces to convince people of our opinions.
We have loved developing our Maths skills through addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. During Education Week we had a great time, sharing literacy and numeracy games with our families.
Inquiry has been a blast! We started the term by getting a class pet – GIANT MEALWORMS! It has been so interesting seeing how they change and develop into beetles. We have had not one, but TWO brilliant incursions that gave us the opportunity to hold a range of exciting animals, including a GIGANTIC snake, and learn all about sustainable practices for our earth.
Finally, we started our ELO classes which has given us an opportunity to develop a love of learning in an area of choice, such as dance, drawing or gardening. We have loved our learning in Term 2.
