Assistant Principal – Teaching & Learning Focus

Read Time: ( words)

NAPLAN
Over the next 2 weeks, our students in Years 3 and 5 will take part in NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy). These assessments provide a snapshot of student progress in literacy and numeracy.

All tests, except the Year 3 writing assessment, will be completed online. The online tests are adaptive, meaning students are presented with questions that may become more or less difficult depending on their responses. This approach allows a wide range of abilities to be assessed and provides more precise results.

At school, our focus during NAPLAN is on helping students feel prepared, calm and supported.  This week, students participated in online practice tests to familiarise themselves with the process of logging in, as well as the style and format of the questions on the online platform. Teachers have been reinforcing that NAPLAN is simply another learning experience, practising familiar question formats so there are no surprises, and encouraging effort rather than perfection.

Thank you to our dedicated teachers, who have worked diligently over the past several weeks to prepare students with the skills and confidence they need. Their thoughtful planning and targeted support have helped ensure our students will feel ready and capable.

At home, families can support their children by maintaining regular sleep routines, providing a healthy breakfast and plenty of water, and ensuring students arrive at school on time. Most importantly, please reassure your child that NAPLAN is just one way we measure learning, and that doing their personal best is what truly matters.

Later in the year, parents of our Year 3 and 5 students will receive an individual NAPLAN report. This report will outline their skills in reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy, and will show how your child performed in relation to national minimum standards.

For more information about NAPLAN, please visit the official website: https://www.nap.edu.au/

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your child’s education. If you have any questions about the upcoming assessments, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.

District Swimming Carnival – Croydon Memorial Pool

On Tuesday 18th February, 22 of our talented students proudly represented our school at the District Swimming Carnival held at Croydon Memorial Pool.

It was a fantastic day of competition and school pride. Our students demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship both in and out of the pool, encouraging one another and celebrating each other’s achievements. Most importantly, they upheld our school values at all times, representing our community with respect and integrity.

We are incredibly proud of all 22 students who participated and commend them for their effort and positive attitude throughout the day.

A special congratulations goes to Jayde, Lydia, Liam and Amelia, who have qualified for the upcoming Division Carnival to be held next week. This is a wonderful achievement and a testament to their hard work and dedication to swimming.

We wish them the very best as they take on the next level of competition. Well done to all involved!

Annual Privacy Reminder For Our School Community

Our school collects and uses student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ privacy policy and the Schools’ privacy collection notice.

Our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students policy, describes how we collect and use photographs, video and recordings of students. The policy also explains when parent consent is required and how it can be provided and withdrawn.

We ask parents to also review the guidance we provide on how we use Google Workspace for Education safely at the school and what parents can do to further protect their child’s information. If after reviewing the guidance, you have any questions or concerns regarding your child using Google Workspace for Education, please contact the school.

For more information about privacy, refer to: Schools’ privacy policy: information for parents.

Punctuality in consent & payments on COMPASS

Thank you to all of our families who have already paid their family contributions. Please see our Business Manager, if you would like to undertake a payment plan for upcoming school costs.
Please note payments for the majority of school events/excursions will be processed via COMPASS.

Throughout the year there are many payments to be made for excursions, camps and swimming. It is very important that these payments are paid by the due date.

All events that require permission and payment will need to be made by the due date if you wish your child to participate.

Only in very extreme circumstances will we be able to process payments after this date, even if the excursion has not yet happened.

Unfortunately, this means your child misses out on the event.

From experience I know that parents can be quite upset when this occurs, so I ask you to be aware of this process and ensure that consent and payments are made via COMPASS on time.

If you have trouble accessing COMPASS or completing payments, please see our office staff who can assist you with the process.
